The turnout for the annual Nurse/Hospital Week BBQ was larger than ever. Nearly 500 SEIU Local 1991 members enjoyed barbecue and ice cream in Alamo Park May 8.
A dozen elected officials helped us celebrate, including State Senators Dwight Bullard and Oscar Braynon, State Representatives Cynthia Stafford, Barbara Watson, David Richardson, Jose Javier Rodriguez, Kionne McGhee, Sharon Pritchett, Joe Geller, Daphne Campbell and County Commissioner Barbara Jordan.
Members also used the opportunity to call on Republican leaders in the Florida House and Gov. Rick Scott to expand Medicaid and protect federal funding for safety net hospitals like Jackson.
