Mayor Gimenez Vetoes 5% – the Fight Continues!
On Friday, Mayor Carlos Gimenez vetoed the Aug. 29 decision of the County Commission to restore the 5% contribution to its Solid Waste workers. But the fight is not over. The Commission can vote to overturn the veto.
Jackson Turns Out to Win 5% for Sister Union

Active Members Win Deferral of 5% Concession Sought By Mayor
SEIU 1991 members did us all proud this week. Hundreds of calls poured into the offices of County Commissioners, telling them that we expect the County to honor its promise to end the 5% contribution in January. The issue was deferred to Aug. 29.

Jackson’s $830 Million Bond Issue
Last week, the Public Health Trust voted to allow Jackson management to put an $830 million bond issue on a referendum in a special election to be held this November.

Jackson and County Employees Rally for 5%
More than 200 county employees, including dozens from Jackson Health System, turned out June 18 to rally for the return of our 5% contribution. Police officers, bus drivers, sanitation workers, park workers and many others joined us to demand an independent audit of the county’s health fund.
