The Miami Herald wrote an outrageous and misleading editorial on Sunday calling our campaign to stop the privatization of Jackson’s Emergency Room Services and Roxcy Bolton Rape Treatment Center a …“red herring” and…“hysterical” and… “just noise that does nothing to help those who need care.”

Jackson Board Votes to Continue Privatization Plans Despite Outraged Community
Thanks to all of you who showed your support for Jackson’s ER today at the Financial Recovery Board meeting. It was a standing-room only crowd and the huge turnout of more than 200 people showed just how much this community cares about Jackson’s ER and preserving our hospital’s mission of providing one single standard of care to everyone in the community.

Police and firefighters held a press conference on Wednesday, Sept. 12th, outside Ryder Trauma Center to oppose plans to privatize Jackson’s Emergency Room services and Roxcy Bolton Rape Treatment Center. “We don’t serve bankers, we don’t serve lobbyists, we serve patients,” City of Miami firefighter Troy Sutton said. “Don’t allow big money to privatize our public hospital or patients will suffer.”

A coalition of community activists joined forces on Friday, Aug. 31st to stop Jackson management’s dangerous proposals to privatize our hospital’s Emergency Room services, including the Roxcy Bolton Rape Treatment Center.

Elected officials, community activists and Jackson caregivers packed today’s Financial Recovery Board meeting to oppose plans to privatize Jackson’s ER services.
ELECTION RESULTS: Victory for Commissioner Barbara Jordan, a Jackson Champion!
Last night’s Primary Election proved victorious for Commissioner Barbara Jordan and several other of our union-backed candidates, with victories in 18 races and a run-off in three! Jordan, a long-time Jackson supporter, beat challenger Shirley Gibson, with 59% of the vote. Jordan’s win was a huge victory for our union, as several of our members worked on the Commissioner’s campaign through canvassing, phone banking and other volunteer activities. Jordan has been one of the most vocal and ardent supporters of our public hospital on the Miami-Dade County Commission dais and we are thrilled that she will remain in office. Thanks again to our members and staff who showed their support for a true Jackson champion!
