Slowly, but surely, progress is being made in bargaining for our 2014-2017 contract. The team will be slogging through the contracts in an all-day work session on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the bargaining team and management will be hopefully finding common ground on a series of issues we have laid out in previous sessions. All members are welcome and encouraged to stop by on breaks to check our progress and support the team!

Update: Bargaining Team Proposes Step Raises
In the fourth bargaining session for the 2014-2017 contract, Local 1991 made several proposals, including full restoration of steps and all other concessions and a 2% COLA in each year of the contract. Management’s proposal would fall far short of that goal.

Jackson Budget Plan: Continued Employee Sacrifice
The Public Health Trust voted to approve Jackson’s $1.6 billion budget on Monday, following a lively debate in which SEIU Local 1991 members took management to task for not addressing short staffing and wage stagnation.
5% Passes PHT, 3% Delayed
The PHT easily passed the 5% agreement at its Jan. 27 meeting, but deferred a vote on the 3% gain-sharing agreement for up to 30 days.

On Thursday, Aug. 29, Jackson employees will join with all other county workers to demand that the County honor its promise to end a 5% pay cut as agreed. Be there! Stronger together!

2013 Legislative Session Wrapup
In a challenging session, Local 1991 won on pensions and elections reform, held the line on funding for Jackson, beat back trauma deregulation and pushed for Medicaid expansion. There’s still work to do, including calling for a special session to expand healthcare to 1.2 million Floridians.
