8.16 Steward Update

Steward meeting: Join us for the monthly steward meeting on Tuesday, August 20 — 7:30-8:30 a.m. and 12-1 p.m. in DTC 270, for important updates on the 5% fight, the Jackson bond issue and more!

Steward trainings: Level II training for all stewards who have completed Level I will occur on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at the union office in Miami Gardens. The next Level I training occurs on October 25.  If you haven’t been trained, it’s important that you RSVP for this one, so we can request a K day for your release that day. Please RSVP now to union@seiu1991.org.

Fight for Our 5%: Impasse hearings on this issue will take place at the County Commission on Thursday, Aug. 29 and we need a big turnout for the rally occuring at County Hall at 9 a.m. As we did last time, we will be encouraging members to make calls to Commissioners in the days before. We will be doing a robocall to members patching them through to their commissioners, but please also encourage them to call on their own starting next week.

Facebook campaign: Find your friends, tag them, share their stories with your friends in our Faces of Jackson photo album. Let’s get the word out about who is affected by the 5%! If you want to share your story, snap a photo with your mobile phone and send it with your story to rebecca@seiu1991.org. We’ll add you to the album.

Stewards of the Month: Nadine Bazan-Sanchez, CSN, and Enrollment Specialist Hiram Ruberte were recently recognized as stewards of the month for leadership in their units. Congratulations!
