SEIU 1991/JHS Climate Committee

Jackson/ SEIU 1991 has been recognized with the Practice Greenhealth Emerald Award, one of the organization’s Environmental Excellence Awards honoring leadership in healthcare sustainability. This highly competitive award is given to hospitals that perform in the top 20% of applicants (more than 650 health care facilities applied) and demonstrate advanced sustainability programs and strong performance across multiple areas, including waste reduction, energy use, and environmental stewardship.
JHS  received multiple awards, including three Champion (Emerald / top 20% of applicants) for Main, North, and West),  one Leader award for South facility, and two prestigious Leadership and Chemicals Circles of Excellence designations for the entire system.

The Circle of Excellence Award celebrates only ten hospitals or healthcare systems in the country who have not only earned an award for all-around sustainability achievement, but have been identified as one of the top scoring programs for each sustainability category. To be eligible for this award, applicants must demonstrate true leadership in the program area through advanced actions.

This recognition reflects the collective efforts across our teams to reduce our environmental footprint while improving patient and community health. It highlights Jackson’s/SEIU 1991 continued commitment to integrating sustainability into our operations and advancing initiatives that support a healthier, more resilient future.
