Healthcare Professionals Support Jackson Bond Issue
Nurses, doctors and healthcare professionals at Jackson Health System will turn out on Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. to support the launch of the Citizens for a Healthy Miami-Dade bond campaign to upgrade outmoded facilities at Jackson.
County Commission Overturns 5% Veto
The Miami-Dade County Commission voted 5-2 today to overturn Mayor Carlos Gimenez’s veto of the 5% contribution for the county’s Solid Waste workers. SEIU Local 1991 was at the forefront of the fight to get the 5% returned to county workers, which sets a very good precedent for our fight.
Immigrant Detention Costs Miami-Dade Residents
SEIU Local 1991 joins a community call for the county to end its policy of holding detainees for ICE, a practice that costs Miami-Dade taxpayers up to $12.5 billion a year.
Mayor Gimenez Vetoes 5% – the Fight Continues!
