Active Members Win Deferral of 5% Concession Sought By Mayor
SEIU 1991 members did us all proud this week. Hundreds of calls poured into the offices of County Commissioners, telling them that we expect the County to honor its promise to end the 5% contribution in January. The issue was deferred to Aug. 29.
Take Action at the County Commission July 16
What happens at Tuesday’s County Commission meeting sets the stage for our bargaining, including whether we will get our 5% back. Let the County Commission know we won’t stand for anything less than what we were promised.
Eight New Staff Added in PT and OT
With the help of active members in Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy, SEIU 1991 began pushing management to address the inadequate staffing levels in their areas, with the result that four new staff were added in each unit.
County Commission Puts Bond on the Ballot
The bond issue to update Jackson’s aging infrastructure made it through the County Commission and will go on November’s ballot. That’s good. Commissioners asked for public input to be a component of the education process. As the healthcare experts who know Jackson inside and out, we will be active participants in that discussion.

Last week, the Public Health Trust voted to allow Jackson management to put an $830 million bond issue on a referendum in a special election to be held this November.
