On Monday, November 3rd, U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren, Tina Smith, and Chris Murphy engaged with and listened to the struggles of South Florida community members who will be directly affected by the impending expiration of Affordable Care Act tax credits, including many South Florida union members at the SEIU 1991 office.
During the visit, the senators listened to powerful testimony from SEIU 1991 President Martha Baker, RN, Vice President David Woolsey, MD, and other SEIU members from 1199, 32BJ, and CIR.
Senators and attendees, including leaders and members from the AFL-CIO, IBEW, and AFSCME, stood united in calling for the extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies.
“If your senators won’t bring your stories back to Washington, we will bring your stories back to Washington,” Murphy said, criticizing Florida’s Republican senators for not agreeing to extend Obamacare subsidies.
Thank you all for attending, and let’s continue the fight for healthcare for all!
In Unity,
Martha Baker, RN
President
