Sixteen years ago, devastation struck the island of Haiti when a 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit. More than 220,000 people lost their lives, 300,000 were injured, and millions were displaced as a result. SEIU 1991members were among the first on the front lines, providing critical aid to the victims.
As we look back on that time, we would like to share this graphic highlighting the impact SEIU members had in the aftermath of the earthquake.
SEIU 1991 was among the top three locals that sent members to assist at the height of the disaster.
Last year, SEIU 1991 members Rose Numa, RN; Marcus Desrosiers, RN; Delia Maria Hernandez-Rivero, OT; and Elisa Priscal, OT, shared their stories with us.
Read their stories here and here.
The dedication our members showed in helping Haiti highlights that healthcare workers’ jobs extend far beyond the walls of Jackson. Our members didn’t hesitate to answer the call when Haiti needed help. Thank you to everyone who donated their time, talents, and resources to support Haiti.
In Unity,
Martha Baker, RN
President
