Layoff, Floating and Cross Training Language Still Being Discussed at Bargaining Table

At today’s session, our bargaining team continued to discuss with management improved language on layoffs, floating and cross training. Earlier this week, management came to the table with improved language on some of their proposals, withdrawing parts that we had previously found objectionable. However, no agreement has been reached yet on these items.

There was no discussion today on monetary items. While management is proposing approximately $70 million in concessions from SEIU bargaining units (way more than we believe is necessary), our team continues to advocate our offer of $36 million in sacrifices as long as the money we give is guaranteed to go toward creating a sustainable Jackson and not wasted on mismanagement.

Thanks to all of our members who supported our bargaining team this week. The next session is scheduled for November 4th. Stay informed on these important developments via email or our web site, www.seiu1991.org.
