Hundreds of members gathered outside Jackson Memorial’s Ryder Trauma Center as part of a series of events to celebrate Nurse/Hospital Week.
Under a huge tent, Local 1991’s nurses, doctors and healthcare professionals enjoyed a BBQ lunch while a DJ played.
Our annual event shows our appreciation to Jackson’s caregivers who continue to demonstrate their dedication and commitment to our public hospital and patients — especially during this difficult time of mass layoffs and ongoing turmoil at Jackson.
During the lunch, President Martha Baker, RN, thanked members for their ongoing hard work. Also, two members from the community — Dr. Calixto Garcia, President of the Community Technological Institute of Miami and Jackson patient Ronnie Goodrich –spoke about a new movement that continues to gain momentum called “Our Jackson.” Following the kick off rally on May 1st, community leaders are building a campaign to keep Jackson in the public’s hands. Our Jackson is currently looking for volunteers! If you are interested, please email ourjackson@gmail.com
“Jackson is home to all of us,” Goodrich said. “Everyone needs Jackson.”
