County Commission Overturns 5% Veto

The Miami-Dade County Commission voted 5-2 today to overturn Mayor Carlos Gimenez’s veto of the 5% contribution for the county’s Solid Waste workers.

SEIU Local 1991 was at the forefront of the multi-union fight to get the 5% returned to county workers, as promised.

While only one union has won that fight at impasse thus far, it sets a very good precedent for our fight.

We are still at the bargaining table with Jackson management, which has indicated its willingness to follow the lead of the county in returning the 5%.

Stay tuned for updates on upcoming bargaining sessions.

But first, pat yourself on the back for a job well done. This victory shows the value of standing strong together.

¡Adelante!
