SEIU Local 1991 members have joined in unity to promote their support for gubernational candidate and Mayor of Tallahasse, Andrew Gillum. Healthcare decisions today are being made in the politcal arena and Gillum believes that healthcare is a right, not a privilege, and promises to fight to expand Medicaid while also strengthening the Affordable Care Act.
“I am supporting Andrew Gillum for Governor in this upcoming election. I really feel he will do a great job for me and many others because I have Lupus, a pre-existing condition. I truly believe that he will fight for us so that we can continue to receive health insurance and quality care” said Linda Johnson RN of Jackson Main.
Floridians with pre-existing conditions are at risk of loosing their healthcare coverage if these conditions are no longer covered under the Affordable Care Act.
“One of the most important issues that matter the most to me in this upcoming election as a healthcare provider is regarding pre-existing conditions. Many people are born with genetic conditions and don’t choose to suffer under these conditions that affect their life,” said Edwin Vides, registered nurse and pediatric transplant coordinator for Jackson Memorial hospital.
“These people may be required to pay more or even be denied coverage for these rights”.
“I decided to do early voting because this election is very important to all of us. Protection for pre-existing conditions as a healthcare worker is very important to me because I have taken care of patients with pre-existing conditions and I would hate to see them lose their healthcare coverage. There are also amendments that are important to the state of Florida and that is why I chose to early vote because I know what is important to Florida, as a healthcare worker, and for my family” Gwendolyn Brown, registered nurse of Jackson North Medical Center.
