2018 Midterm Election Results

midterm 2018 results post

SEIU Local 1991 would like to congratulate Annette TaddeoDebbie Mucarsel-Powell, and Donna Shalala for Congress on winning their respective seats last night!

Amendment #4 passing and returning the right to vote to millions of Floridians is another positive outcome of Election Night, one that should play a significant role in elections to come. This is a long term victory for Floridians. Miami-Dade voters also approved Referendum 362 which will result in pay increases for public school teachers.

While the defeat of Andrew Gillum is disheartening to all of us who support affordable and accessible healthcare for Floridians, Democrats flipping the House should provide checks and balances that we were sorely lacking the last two years. Across the country, progressive seats were won by record numbers of women, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

A big thank you to all of you, the members who voted. SEIU Local 1991 had over 52% of it’s members vote early, putting us at the top of locals across the nation. Also, thank you to all of the volunteers who spent hundreds of hours this election season either in our union office phone banking or knocking doors to get out the vote
