Florida Congresswoman Val Demings Visits Jackson Memorial Hospital

Florida Congresswoman Val Demings, who is running to unseat U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, visited Jackson Memorial Hospital to meet frontline healthcare workers on Tuesday.

SEIU Local 1991 Executive Director Martha Baker, President Vicki Gonzalez, and Vice President Grace Meatley introduced the Congresswoman to union members and led her on a tour of the hospital’s Trauma Intensive Care Unit and Trauma Resuscitation. Following the meet-and-greet, Rep. Demings participated in a press conference in which she spoke about the importance of one standard of healthcare for all Florida residents, regardless of their ability to pay. The Congresswoman then spent the afternoon visiting with South Florida labor leaders.

Thanks to Jeffrey Mitchell, President of the South Florida AFL-CIO, for organizing the reception at SEIU Local 1991’s headquarters and to leaders from ILA Local 1416, AFSCME Florida, CWA, United Teachers of Dade, Teamsters Local 769, IUPAT District Council 78, and SEIU Florida for joining us.
