2026–2029 Contract Bargaining Update: Session #1
Our first bargaining session for the 2026–2029 contract began on Tuesday, June 30, at the SEIU 1991 office. During this brief initial meeting, we reaffirmed our commitment to building a more sustainable Jackson Health System by supporting the nurses, physicians, and healthcare professionals who make that possible.
The proposed property tax cuts that will appear on the November ballot continue to create uncertainty for Miami-Dade County’s financial outlook. County commissioners and all county entities, such as Jackson, are closely monitoring the looming fiscal impact should the measure be approved. Until there is greater clarity on the financial situation, the bargaining team will focus on addressing non-economic issues at the bargaining table. This is why we are encouraging everyone to vote NO: eliminating property taxes could limit our ability to get a raise.
We outlined preliminary priorities that we intend to address throughout negotiations, including:
- Bringing all job classifications up to market rate, especially those left behind in the last contract, such as Nuclear Med. Techs., Wound Care Nurses, Navigators, etc. The bargaining team will take this summer to clarify language in the contract which we’ve had to resolve with grievances in the past.
- When asked, management reported the current vacancy in Jackson is 6%, which is relatively low. We did flag the continued shortages affecting CRNAs and PT/OT at Jackson Main.
Your bargaining team is committed to advocating for the issues that matter to our members and to negotiating an even stronger contract. Please continue filling out your bargaining survey and reaching out to the bargaining team with your concerns.
