Tentative Agreement Offers More than 4%
In a tentative agreement signed Oct. 19 and ratified by members the following week, SEIU, AFSCME and JHS management agreed to a deal that would put more money in members’ pockets and achieve equity with the 4% COLA other county unions received. Some insurance changes are also in the agreement.
Bargaining Update #4: We Want Our 4%
At the Sept. 27 negotiation session, management stuck to a proposal it had floated at a previous session to give employees a two percent COLA and one-time bonus payment of 2%, with the possibility of another 2% COLA next year, if employees help JHS earn more money on efficiencies. The bargaining team expressed support for continuing to help Jackson get safer and more efficient, but stood firm on our position of demanding no less than a 4% COLA – the same as other county unions.

Labor Day 2015
As Jackson workers, standing up for quality care and a better workplace is just part of the job. This year, workers represented by Local 1991 have enjoyed a great contract with added benefits, progress on important issues such as staffing ratios and safe patient handling. All of that has been made possible only with all of us standing together to demand better. Read on for more about labor accomplishments across the country.
QNCD: Staffing Ratios Update
New nurse-to-patient staffing ratios were negotiated in the current contract.The Quality Nursing and Career Development Committee (QNCD), comprised of Local 1991 members and JHS management, has been working to evaluate the number of nurses needed on each unit and make sure jobs are posted and hired and trained to meet the ratios. Progress is slowly being made throughout the system as hundreds of RNS are hired to get to full compliance by Oct. 1, 2015.
Company 300 Tentative Agreement Reached!
On June 10, the Local 1991 bargaining team reached a historic tentative agreement for all union-eligible employees moving from Company 300 to Company 410 (Professionals). The agreement, which is an addendum to the existing Professionals contract, must still be ratified by employees in the Professionals bargaining unit, as well as the Public Health Trust and the County Commission.
