Bargaining resumed on September 21, 2017 with a spirited discussion about pay scales. The JHS Management Team presented their wage proposal which calls for targeted increases. It is a generous plan because the pay hikes reach across all levels within certain job classifications. But they are not across the board increases because they’re based on market data. In order to off-set the proposed wage increases, Management is looking to limit cash outs and make changes to extended illness practices among other concessions.
Another Management proposal seeks to eliminate the HMO High/Standard insurance option. While this proposal would save the hospital about 1.9 million dollars, your team is concerned about your options. That’s why the Team is working to ensure that wrap around coverage is offered for those who need it if the HMO High/Standard plan is removed. All other comprehensive insurance plans will remain in place with no escalation in rates for three years. If you currently have the HMO High/Standard, it’s critically important for you to attend a meeting about the proposed insurance changes soon so you can give us your input, ask questions and learn more about your options.
Please keep in mind that the Bargaining Team has made no final decision about any of these proposals. Nothing is final until you and your union brothers and sisters vote on a new contract. But bargaining is getting down to the wire so please stay informed and try to attend the next bargaining session which is scheduled for Monday, September 25th from 1 to 6pm at the SEIU Local 1991 office located 1601 NW 8th Avenue, Miami, FL 33136.
