SEIU Local 1991 Joins Other Organizations to Celebrate Historic U.S. Supreme Court Decision
On Friday, June 29th, Local 1991 joined other organizations for a press conference to respond to the landmark US Supreme Court ruling that upheld the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the sweeping national health reform legislation that has improved the lives of millions, including our patients at Jackson Health System.
Supreme Court Upholds Affordable Care Act!
Today, the US Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act as fully constitutional, including expansion of care to 32 million Americans, a range of consumer protections from insurance company abuses, the creation of competitive marketplaces in states for individuals to purchase lower cost insurance, and quality of care improvements.
The Miami Herald: Chair of Jackson Health System pushes for revised board
The Charter Review Task Force has rejected a proposal to create a new governing board for Jackson Health System, but Marcos Lapciuc, Jackson’s board chairman, is continuing to push for a revised governing structure to replace the present Financial Recovery Board, which is scheduled to sunset next spring.

VICTORY FOR JACKSON! – Proposal to Change Hospital’s Governance Structure FAILS!
Today was a huge victory for the people of Miami-Dade County and our ongoing fight to keep Jackson Health System public! At the final Charter Review Task Force meeting, the controversial, rushed proposal to change Jackson’s governance structure – which had serious implications for the future of our public hospital – FAILED in a 7-4 vote. This latest win illustrates the power of our community when we unite in the fight to preserve our public hospital.
